MOROCCAN-INSPIRED CONDO

A MOROCCAN-INSPIRED CONDO IN VANCOUVER

With a joint vision in mind, the PlaidFox team worked alongside the homeowner, an avid traveller and photographer, to create a space that was reflective of her globetrotting lifestyle.

THE BUILDING:
MODERN MEETS HERITAGE

Located just outside the historic area of Chinatown, the Abbott Street project is a testament to the idea that newness can coexist with antiquity. The three-bed, two-bath condo was fully reimagined with all new interior finishes and furniture.

THE CHALLENGE: A BEYOND-AWKWARD LAYOUT

Working with an awkward and nearly unchanged layout (different ceiling heights, oddly proportioned rooms) the team created different zones through minor architectural changes inspired by Morocco and India. Custom pieces such as the rose cabinet, Moroccan-inspired archways, and floating bench in the home’s entryway were used to create a non-typical interpretation of a modern home.

INSPIRED BY THE CLIENT’S LOVE OF TRAVELLING + ART

Celebrating the talent of international artists was an important factor during the decorating process of the home. All art pieces and sculptures where purchased by the team direct from the artists overseas. All the photography is original work from the homeowner herself. We wanted to source pieces touched by the hands of artists to create a home filled with stories, not objects.

ECLECTIC, BOLD—ANYTHING BUT BORING

The homeowner's photography, which adorns many of the walls, acted as inspiration for the aesthetic choices in the home. It's a complicated mix of calming minimalism and colourful eclecticism that’s become a signature of the projects designed by the PlaidFox team.

THIS PROJECT WILL BE FEATURED IN HOUSE & HOME, SPRING 2020

As an avid photographer, ballerina, globetrotting adventure seeker and physician, our client was truly the inspiration for our design. We're going to be talking more about the inspiration behind her condo in the Spring 2020 issue of House & Home.
